Cameron Spike-Porter is an experienced and enthusiastic guitarist, teacher and composer. Cameron received a Bachelor’s degree in music from Southern Cross University in 2011 and is continuing his studies in 2014 with an honours course at SCU. As well as working as a live session musician, Cameron has also taught guitar for 10 years, including working at 3 private teaching institutes in Sydney for 2 years before moving to the Northern Rivers area.
Cameron has always endeavoured to be involved in the music community and has performed with an array of local and international musicians including 3 years as a guitarist for Lisa Hunt’s band ‘Forever Soul’ and a 2 month Australian tour with Toni Childs. Live touring has given Cameron the opportunity to perform live on ‘Sunrise’ morning TV show (check out Cameron looking musically serious in the background here) and also the chance to perform with international artists Leo Sayer, Mark Gable, Wendy Matthews, David Campbell and Damien Leith.
Outside of session work and teaching Cameron’s main passion is composition and has been involved with various local original projects and has also written and performed his own original music ranging from jazz instrumentals to indie pop. Cameron recently recorded an album of his own compositions, ‘Your Sweet Life’ with acclaimed engineer and producer Nick Didia. Songs from this album was featured on Triple J ‘unearthed’ site here as is the animated film clip for the song ‘Pictures’ which shows Cameron’s creative talents as a visual artist. Cameron has been active as a performer, writer and teacher across a broad range of styles and is very much looking forward to be teaching alongside good friends Dylan and Polly at Tipitina music in Alstonville.
